Losi Lasernut vs. Rock Rey: Comparison of 1/6 Scale Buggy

Although both the Losi Lasernut and Rock Rey are 1/6th scale buggy, their styles are entirely different. Lasernut is designed specifically for high-speed driving, while Rock Rey is built for bashing on rough terrains. Therefore, they have many differences in their configurations. We provide a detailed comparison of both here, and let you know in-depth about both outstanding large-scale RC buggy.

Performance

The Lasernut’s power system can handle up to 6s, and with its stock high-RPM 4074 2050Kv motor and a smaller gear ratio, it easily achieves speeds of 50+ mph on a 6s LiPo. On the other hand, the Rock Rey’s power system can handle up to 8s. The stock motor is a low-RPM, high-torque 5687 750Kv motor, requiring an 8s LiPo to 50+ mph. Therefore, in terms of speed, the Lasernut is the clear winner.

However, Rock Rey is better in stability and control on rough terrain, due to 3 features:

  • High-Torque Motor: Provides ample power.
  • Long Travel Rear Axle and Suspension: Better handles bumps.
  • AVC: Throttle and steering adjustment technology makes the motor more efficient.

Durability

Both buggies feature a 4mm thick aluminum chassis, but the key difference is that the Lasernut’s chassis and roll cage are separate components, while the Rock Rey’s chassis and roll cage are integrated. This design makes the Rock Rey more robust and durable, providing excellent protection on rough terrains.

Summary

From an overall design, the 1/6 scale Lasernut is a budget-friendly option, which lowers the barrier to entry for large-scale RC trucks. Better suited for running on relatively smooth terrain and can easily run high speeds. However, when it comes to run various terrains, the Rock Rey is more reliable, better suited for people who enjoy bashing.
