GEPRC Vapor X5 vs. Mark5: Which is Better?

What’s the difference between GEPRC Vapor X5 and the MARK5 in freestyle 5″ quads? Simply put, the main difference lies in the budget-friendly FC and ESC used in the Vapor X5, while most other parts are quite similar to the MARK5. However, these components result in noticeable differences in flight experience, flight data recording, and tuning. If this piques your interest, keep reading as we dive deeper into the comparison, making it easy for you to understand and quickly make an informed decision.

FC

Vapor FC: GEP-F722-HD v2

Mark5 FC: GEP-F722-BT-HD V3

Compared to the FC in the Vapor-X5, the MARK5 has 2 advantages.

Bluetooth Module Functionality: It allows for wireless tuning, making it super convenient whether you’re indoors or outdoors. All you need is a smartphone to wirelessly connect to the FC and easily adjust settings through the app. This is especially handy when fine-tuning and making repeated adjustments. However, if you’re a beginner, you might not find yourself using this feature often.

Black Box: The GEP-F722-BT-HD V3 features a 512MB onboard SD card, while the GEP-F722-HD v2 only has 16MB onboard. This means the MARK5 can store a lot more flight data, making it easier for you to perform more detailed analysis and tuning. For example, 16MB can record up to 5 minutes, which is enough for just one or two flights. On the other hand, 512MB can store several hours of flight data, allowing you to log an entire day of flights without worrying about running out of space.

ESC

Vapor ESC: TAKER H60_BLS 60A 4IN1 ESC

Mark5: GEP-BL32 50A 96K 4IN1 ESC

The ESC protocols BLS (BLHeli_S) and BL32 (BLHeli_32) are different versions. The former uses an 8-bit processor, supporting DShot150, DShot300, and DShot600 transmission protocols. In contrast, the latter is a 32-bit version that supports the more advanced DShot1200.

So, what’s the advantage of DShot1200?

IMO, the 2 most important benefits are the RPM filtering feature and the ability to set a higher PWM frequency such as 96K. These significantly enhance flight performance, improving throttle response, motor smoothness, and overall control precision. As a result, maneuvers like acceleration, turns, and freestyle tricks feel more responsive and agile, especially noticeable during high-speed flights.

Other features include overcurrent protection, more advanced data logging, and more.

Summary: Which is better?

The Vapor X5 is a great choice for pilots new to 5-inch freestyle quads. When you’re just starting out, you’re mainly focused on learning and getting familiar with flying, so you probably won’t need many of the advanced features we mentioned earlier. Once you’ve mastered the basics and want to take your skills and performance to the next level, that’s when you can start exploring tuning and upgrading parts.

Of course, if budget isn’t a concern, the Mark5 is a better option as it offers more room for growth and learning.
